16 SEPTEMBER 2026 — A HORRIFIC TRAGEDY ON THE MAMBILLA PLATEAU
More revelations show that even crops, including banana trees, and the community Nomadic school built by the community were destroyed by the cutlass- and machete-wielding tribal Militias that invaded the Fulani community of Wuro Geroji, suburbs of Mbamnga community in Sardauna LGA of Taraba State.
The situation was horrific and deeply disturbing, and the reported killings and destruction, if established, would rank among the most heinous crimes committed by the tribal Militias during the conflict.
People were reportedly butchered to death, beheaded, cut into pieces, and later mutilated. Human bodies and animal carcasses were reportedly littered across the community.
This was not only an attack on human lives and property; even the crops that sustained the community and the school built for the education of their children were not spared. Banana trees were destroyed, while the community Nomadic school was also reduced to destruction.
Those who were lucky to survive the mayhem fled to neighbouring Cameroon Republic as refugees, leaving behind their homes, properties, animals, farms, schools, and ancestral community in search of safety.
But now, after surviving the mayhem and living as refugees, they have returned back to their ancestral home, only to find their community reduced to rubbles.
Imagine fleeing your ancestral home to save your life, becoming a refugee in another country, and eventually returning home only to discover that everything you once knew has been destroyed.
This is the painful reality being faced by the survivors of Wuro Geroji.
The destruction of a community is not merely the destruction of buildings; it is the destruction of memories, livelihoods, education, homes, and the future of innocent people.
The reported atrocities deserve a thorough, impartial investigation, justice for the victims, humanitarian support for the survivors, reconstruction of the destroyed community, adequate security, reconciliation, and a genuine commitment to lasting peace on the Mambilla Plateau.
