Wuro Geroji, Taraba: Allegations of Destruction Require Independent Investigation
New reports allege that armed attackers described as Mambilla assailants targeted the Fulani community of Wuro Geroji, near Mbamnga, in Sardauna LGA of Taraba State, resulting in deaths, destruction of homes and farms, and the burning or destruction of a community-built Nomadic school.
The reports further allege severe violence against victims and livestock. These claims remain subject to independent verification and should not be treated as established facts without credible evidence.
Survivors are reportedly said to have fled across the border into Cameroon, leaving behind homes, farms, livestock, schools and other belongings. Upon returning, they allegedly found much of their community devastated.
If independently confirmed, such destruction would represent more than the loss of physical property. It would affect human lives, livelihoods, education, community heritage and the future of displaced families.
There must be no selective outrage. Every civilian life matters, regardless of whether the victims are Fulani, Mambilla, Hausa, Mwaghavul, Berom or any other community.
The appropriate response is credible investigation, accountability for perpetrators, protection of civilians, humanitarian support for survivors, and a sustainable security framework that protects every community.
